When we choose our outfit, we’re perfectly aware of the fact that it’s not only all about the proper choice of colors and kinds of clothes. Having basic knowledge about coloristic analysis, and knowing our body is essential, as only then are we able to make sure that we look perfect in the clothes that we buy. This rule also applies to haircuts, with the shape of your face being the crucial factor. The fact that your friend looks great in a short bob with a fringe doesn’t mean that you’ll look good in it – just like not everyone looks good in pegs or maxi dresses 😉 Everyone of us is different and everyone has to find their own path in fashion. Let me assist you to find your perfect haircut! Sit back in front of a mirror, put your hair in the back, put a headband on, and take a while to think what the shape of your face is… and I’ll tell you what haircuts suit you! 😉
1. OVAL FACE
WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE? It’s regarded as the perfect shape 😉 The forehead isn’t either too high or too low. The hairline is oval. Your chin is a bit round, your cheeks slim without noticeable bones.
MISSION: You don’t have any „special missions“, you can just go for haircuts that you like or hide your weaknesses. An asymmetrical fringe will draw attention away from a big nose, a little one will like the company of a straight fringe, protruding ears can be masked with longer hair, with some volume on the sides, just like this bob.
WHAT HAIRSTYLES TO CHOOSE? If your face is a bit longer, go for a straight fringe around your eyebrows. In any other case – it’s totally up to you 😉 You can wear buns, turbans, and braids.
WHAT TO AVOID? If your neck isn’t that long, try to avoid haircuts that reach the middle o fit. If your head is big compared to the rest of your body (it’s very common if your figure type is an F), avoid backcombed updos, even if your hair is curly, try to keep it straight.
2. ROUND FACE
WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE? Relatively low forehead, round cheekbones (your cheek-bones aren’t that sharp, you can’t really see them). Your face seems a bit chubby, which makes it totally girly.
MISSION: Make your face look longer
WHAT HAIRSTYLES TO CHOOSE? Long straight hair will be perfect. If you don’t like long hair, check out a bob which’ll be longer at the sides, and shorter in the back. When you tie your hair for an evening event, or to a wedding, remember to leave one strand loose around your face.
WHAT TO AVOID? Straight geometric fringes. They’re your total foe! 😉 Avoid smooth updos at the back of your head, as they’ll accentuate the shape of your face.
3. SQUARE FACE
WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE? A strong horizontal jaw line is your characteristic feature. There’s no oval at the bottom, only sharp lines. Your cheekbones are high and sharp (it looks extremely noble in pictures 😉 ).
MISSION: ease the sharp lines of your jaw
WHAT HAIRSTYLES TO CHOOSE? Above all, go for ultrafeminine waves, curls, a’la Golden Era of Hollywood updos. Your hair should rather be long and half long, it can be straight, with a parting in the middle. If you like fringes, remember to comb it aside and let is softly fall on your face.
WHAT TO AVOID? Adding extra volume near your cheeks and jaw (bob isn’t really for you). Don’t even look in the direction of geometric haircuts with straight lines as they accentuate the sharp lines of your jaw.
4. TRIANGLE FACE
WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE? Your forehead is a bit wide, your cheekbones sharp and high. Your chin is pointed, so your face seems to be narrowing at the bottom.
MISSION: make the jaw line wider
WHAT HAIRSTYLES TO CHOOSE? Your updos and hairstyles should be smooth at the top of your head and gain volume around your chin and jaw. When it comes to curls and waves, start curling your hair at the height your ears. A short bob with a parting in the middle or with a fringe will also give you some charm. If you like accessories and large pins, you’ll look great with, for example, a big flower pinned aside, behind your ear. You’ll read more about hair accessories HERE.
WHAT TO AVOID? High updos, buns (especially the popular ones tied at the top of your head) and so calls „mushroom hairstyles“.
5. REVERSED TRIANGLE
WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE? Exactly the opposite of a triangle face 😉 Your forehead is slim and usually not high, it get’s wider at your cheekbones which are nicely shaped. Your jaw is wide, your chin pointed.
MISSION: making the bottom of your face look slimmer
WHAT HAIRSTYLES TO CHOOSE? Make sure you add some volume to your head at the top so that it falls down with grace. All kinds of high buns and updos will be great for you, yet remember to leave your fringe out. It has to be messy, a bit longer, best if it’s asymmetrical. If you like to wear your hair loose, make sure that you add the volume (by blow-drying it with your head down, for example). Make friends with volume adding cosmetics, like foams and hairsprays. Your face totally loves toques and fascinators (like THESE here) that are worn at the top of the head!
WHAT TO AVOID? „Smooth“ hairstyles that fall down loosely, partings in the middle of your head.
6. DIAMOND SHAPED
WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE? Above all, such a face has characteristic sharp and quite high cheekbones. They’re the widest part of your face. Your chin is way more narrow, but not so slim as when it comes to triangle shaped faces.
MISSION: mask your too noticeable cheekbones
WHAT HAIRSTYLES TO CHOOSE? It depends whether you like your cheekbones or you’d prefer to hide them. I personally believe that they’re an asset and find them extremely hot, but I also know that one might not be a fan of them 😉 If you go for the first option, you have plenty of choices, you can even wear your hair in a smooth ponytail. If you’d rather mask your cheeks, go for long and half-long fringeless hair-cuts that keep your forehead and exposed. Waves will be perfect for that. When you tie your hair in the back, you can let two strands loose so that they fall on your face.
WHAT TO AVOID? If you don’t like your cheekbones (see the above paragraph 😉 ) avoid smooth short and boyish haircuts.
